WEEK of February 12
Assalamu Alikum Parents,
We hope that the kids are enjoying their class as we enjoy teaching them. This week, our lesson was entitled Muslim manners. We began with a story and then read two books about manners. One of them was Asslamu Alaykum. In this book, we read that it is very important to say salam whenever we see another Muslim brother or sister. The other book is titled What Do We Say… There was a selection of different dua’s in the book like, like the dua to be recited after sneezing or the dua to be recited before eating. A straightforward and simple method has been applied to teach the basic du’as to Pre-K level children. This will help them to understand the reasons and the occasions for their use.
Then came the fun part. We made a project with chart paper and cut out balloon shapes. We stuck the shapes on the chart paper, and on each balloon, we wrote one manner. Each child got 5 balloons, and a different manner was written on each balloon. Then the kids wrote their names on the chart paper and decorated it with stickers. The kids were very excited when they were doing the project. We asked them to hang the chart paper in their room so that they can remember their manners.
Lastly, we request you to take some time and review these manners at home. Ask them what they have learned in the class. Try to play a game regarding manners and encourage them to adopt these manners.
Have a good week. We will see you on the 26th InshaAllah.
Sincerely,
Ammara Iqbal and Shazia Andaleeb
WEEK of Jan. 22
Assalamu Alaikum Parents,
Another Sunday passed by and with it we covered another topic. Today we learned about Prophet Ibrahim. We began class with a little chat, as our kids love to share their stories. After that we told them the story of Prophet Ibrahim Alaih Salam. We described how Allah chose him as a Prophet so he could help people who didn't believe in the oneness of God. As always, the kids were very excited about the related project. In this project, we cut flames (of fire) out of construction paper and glued them to a background construction paper. This represented the incident of Ibrahim Alaih Salam being thrown in the fire. Then we put flower stickers on the flames to represent that the fire was cooled as Ibrahim Alaih Salam landed on it.
I was pleasantly surprised that each child did a very neat job on the project. We hope they enjoyed doing it. We request you to take some time and tell your child about Prophet Ibrahim. Ask them questions, play games regarding the story, so they will remember the story.
Feel free to ask questions and give suggestions. We will see you next week Insha Allah.
Sincerely,
Ammara Iqbal and Shazia Andaleeb
WEEK of Jan. 15
Assalamu Alaikum Parents,
WEEK 5 Oct. 16
Assalamualaikum!
It was great to greet our children back after their break for the service weekend. The little ones too seemed excited to be back at Webb and were full of enthusiasm for the class.
Our topic for last class was "Love of Allah" where we focused on how how much Allah (Swt) loves us and what we need to do to show our love back to Him. We talked about the best way of pleasing Him and arrived at the conclusion that the best way of expressing our love for Him is by following His Commandments of being good, praying, being generous and helpful etc.
As part of out activity, the children learnt to write the name of Allah in both Arabic and English. As a further activity, each of them was asked to name one thing that they do to make Allah happy. We wrote the answer for them and had them decorate their answers. We all had a fun time doing this and we hope that we were able to make the simplify and explain the concept to them.
As part of our 'Power Bar', we had Ms Terri come in and sing some Islamic songs and Nasheeds with them with a lot of hand movements and actions thrown in- probably the most enjoyable part of class, for them and us!
We wrapped up the class with a story about Prophet Ibrahim (A.S), the Friend of Allah, who Allah (swt) loved immensely.
As home work for the week, we asked our students to remember what they learnt in class and do one thing that makes Allah (swt) happy from the following list of activities:
1) Help you set the table for dinner.
2) Share a toy with a sibling or friend.
3) Donate a dollar at you local Mosque's donation box.
Please review with them what they covered in class and encourage them to finish their homework.
Do let us know how we are doing, and what we can do better.
We would like to request you once again to try and come 5 minutes earlier that 1:45 to pick up your kids from us so that they can do Salat with you. Jazakallah.
Your's sincerely,
Shazia Andaleeb & Madeeha Shakeel
WEEK 4 Oct. 9
WEEK 3 Oct. 2
WEEK 2 Sept. 25
Dear Parents,
Assalmalaikum!
The second class of this semester concluded and I hope your child enjoyed
learning as much as we enjoyed teaching them.
Our plan this semester is to is to introduce the kids to the fundamental
aspects of Islamic Aqeedah. We started with 'Allah's Creation' last week,
and our topic of discussion yesterday was "The First Man- Prophet Adam
(A.S)".
After a quick recap of what we had done in last class, we introduced the
children to the story of the creation of the first man, Satan's rebellion
and the subsequent temptation by him in Paradise. To reinforce the story,
our activity involved the sticking of little fruit stickers on a tree which
the kids later glued on to sheet of paper. As revision, we encourage to you
quiz your child about the story and to go over it at home so that it is
cemented in their minds.
We would like to remind you to make sure that your child comes in with
his/her yellow Webb backpack and their name tags. It is imperative that they
have these at all times as they serve to identify Webb students in a venue
where other people are also present and hence student safety needs to be
thoroughly ensured.
As an additional note, we would like to inform you that the Pre-K
co-teacher, Ms. Ammara Iqbal is travelling right now, and that Ms. Madiha
Shakeel will be working with the kids in her place till she returns.
If you have an questions or concerns please feel free to approach us
anytime. Thank you.
Wassalam
Shazia
WEEK 1 Sept. 18
Dear Parents,
Assalamualaikum!
A new school year is underway here at The Webb Foundation and we are all excited and ready to make it a great year for you and your child. This letter is to introduce parents to to our plan for the year ahead. It is important that you keep this letter handy as this will enable you to know what is expected of your child, and you will be able to track your child's progress by quizzing them at home on topics covered. We will be discussing basic Islamic topics such as Love of Allah, Allah's creation, stories of the Prophets, manners, worship, etc. A copy of the curriculum for this year will be sent to soon in your child's folder.
The class runs from 9:45- 1:45.We will be sending homework sheets, that we will expect you to initial and send back in the folder provided each class. Please make sure your child brings his/her folder and the yellow Webb bag that they received on the first day of class.
We will be incorporating crafts, coloring activties, and rhymes that reflect topics in the curriculum. If you are unable to help on the day you signed up to help in class, please let us know ahead of time, if possible, and you may be able to switch days with another parent.
Our topic for the last class was 'Creation of Allah', where we learnt all about the wonderful creations Allah has made for us. The kids were taught to be thankful for all the gifts of Allah. In order to show their thankfulness, we asked them to take care of one thing Allah has created, and to make it simple, we asked them to water a small plant in their backyard. We would request you to follow it up and home and make sure the activity is completed, so the concept is cemented their minds.
As an additional note, at the end of the school day, we request you to pick up your child from us before the commencement of Salat at 1:45 in the Chicago Room. The Pre-K students will be lined up at the back wall of the room and as the little ones get restless easily, we would appreciate it if you were there 5 minutes earlier so we could hand them off to you before the hall gets crowded with the senior sudents and their parents.
We know that we have provided you with a lot of information, but we have found that by doing this, you as parents are better informed and your children are better prepared for class. We are looking forward to a happy and enriching year!
Sincerely,
Shazia Akbar & Ammara Iqbal
