Sunday, October 8th - A Portion of Your Night For Remembrance: Pre-Dawn Breakfast

Our morning began at 4:30 praying for those around us. We then enjoyed breakfast as a community, prayed Fajr, and began our fast with the mindset of thankfulness.

Giving thanks for abundance is sweeter than the abundance itself:
Should one who is absorbed with the Generous One
Be distracted by the gift?
Thankfulness is the soul of beneficence;
Abundance is but the husk,
For thankfulness brings you to the place where the Beloved lives.
Abundance yields heedlessness; thankfulness, alertness.
Hunt for bounty with the snare of gratitude for "God."

August Events

Tuesday, August 29th - Strengthening Parent-Teacher Relationships

The Mohammed Webb Foundation held a beneficial workshop on how to establish and strengthen relationships with their child's school teacher(s). Attendees learned and shared ideas on how to sustain a healthy relationship with their child's teacher.

The workshop included presentations by both active school parents and public school educators of varying school levels who gave insight on how to create a positive relationship with the teacher and be a great asset for the school. We also had a session on the signs parents need to be aware of as to know when to intervene, especially at the high school level.

Experts have confirmed that when families partner with schools, children have a high success rate.

Friday, August 25th - End of Summer Campfire 2006

The Webb Foundation held it's annual End of Summer Campfire with friends and family on the warm night of August 25th.

We roasted marshmallows, listened to stories, sang songs, and embarked on our own summer adventures, finally bringing the summer of 2006 to a close.

July Events

Saturday, July 15th - Crusin' the Kankakee:  Picnic in a Canoe

As we rolled into summer, we shared our love of nature and the outdoors with good friends.

How better to enjoy the woods and the river than while drifting in a canoe contemplating God's beautiful gifts to us? Racing, and picnicing were also part of this event!

May Events

Sunday, May 14th - YMe Breast Cancer Race

The Prophet (PBUH) said: Allah has sent down both the disease and the cure, and He has appointed a cure for every disease

This year the Webb Foundation created a team to participate in one of the largest walks for breast cancer, the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Walk, that is held every year in Grant Park in downtown Chicago on Mother's Day (May 14th).

Consider the statistics:

There are 2 million women living in the U.S. who have been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in American women.
Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for women 40-55 years of age.

April Events

Saturday, April 29th - A Mercy to Mankind Mawlid 2006

We  celebrated the birth our Prophet Mohammed, peace and blessings upon him, in the month of Rabi' Al-Awwal. It was an afternoon of reflection and gratitude for he who was sent as a mercy to mankind and an example for all of us.  God willing, our love for the Prophet Mohammed will keep us together, and fill our hearts.

He is like the sun, small to the eye when seen from afar,
But when glimpsed close up. it dazzles and overwhelms.
-Imam al Busiri referring to the Prophet in "al Burda"-

March Events

The Mohammed Webb Foundation would like to invite you to help us take part in celebrating the return of the Hajjis and recognizing them for their accomplishment.

By the Grace of God, some brothers and sisters from our community have returned from the Holy Pilgrimage to Mecca.
Join us as we give them (our guests of honor) an appropriate "welcome home." God willing, we will be inspired as they reflect on their Hajj and share stories with us about their wonderful experience.

December Events

Saturday, December 31 - New Year's Eve Lock-In

One of our favorite events of the year, the second annual "lock in" event was held next door to the Sayeed residence (the neighbors had moved out). The evening began with remembrance and concluded with a raucous game of Mafia that lasted well into the early morning hours.  For any of our members who are considering moving in this next year, we ask you to consider timing your move so that we may have access to your empty home for this year's lock in!

November Events

Sunday, November 20 - Eid Bowling Party

The Tivoli Bowl in downtown Downers Grove was the site of our community Eid celebration as we rejoiced in a successful end to the month of Ramadan.  Having the bowling alley all to ourselves made for a great evening and of course, no celebration is complete without a pinata and cake!

October/Ramadan Events

Friday, October 28th - Fountain of Spiritual Renewal

Sunday, October 23rd - Night of Remembrance/Community Sohoor

The Abdel-Moneim family no doubt received tremendous blessings for hosting the sohoor, dhikr, and fajr prayers.  We thank the tremendously dedicated individuals who attended at such an early hour and pray that the blessings of that gathering stay with us through out the year.

Saturday, October 15th - Got Your Back: Support for Hurricane Victims

The Syed family graciously hosted a day of community service where members had the opportunity to assemble backpack kits for Katrina victims.  Those who attended loved spending the time with their children in service of other children who are in great need at this time.  The children were encouraged to include a letter in each backpack for the recipient so that the pack not only had school supplies but a message of hope and prayers as well.  If you'd like further information on similiar projects, you can visit:www.projectbackpackil.org or www.dosomething.org

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”  Margaret Mead

Saturday, October 8th - Presenting Islam In Your Child's School

A small workshop was conducted on how to present Ramadan in your child's school, interact with the teaching staff to help them understand this sacred month and all that comes with it in a way that is meaningful for your child, the school and Insha Allah, any future Muslim students who attend the school.

September 16-17, 2005 - Father/Daughter Camping

A crisp fall weekend was the perfect backdrop to a spectacular weekend where fathers and their daughters came to know one another and take the opportunity to get even closer.  Activities included cooking on the campfire, boating, hiking, and some healthy father vs. daughter competition.

August 26, 2005 - Campfire Night

Hmmm...a campfire night of relaxation, sharing summer adventures and roasting marshmallows.  We brought our blankets, our family, and invited new
friends!  We heard tales told by a local storyteller and shared an evening of conversation.  A great way to start the new school year and end another wonderful summer.

The Webb family played and relaxed at a community picnic. The Prophet (pbuh) said, “He who performs the Fajr Prayer in congregation, and makes dhikr until sunrise, and then offers two rak`ahs of Duha Prayer will get a reward equal to that of complete Hajj and `Umrah.” (He said “complete Hajj and `Umrah” three times.) (Tirmithi)

The Mohammed Webb Foundation conducted a morning of remembrance. We began with Fajr prayers, joined in Dhikr (remembrance of our Lord), and concluded with breakfast.

December 31st 2004 - New Year's Eve Family Lock-In

The evening was full of activities that were spiritually fulfilling, intellectually stimulating, and yep- just plain fun.  Participants rotated through a series of activities such as board games, short movie clips, and mingling but most importantly, a session devoted to remembrance of God.

December 26th 2004 – Sunday Afternoon at the Movies

A local high school theatre was the perfect atmosphere for our community to come together for a movie and and a discussion about the issues raised.  We watched “Osama” which was the story of a young Afghani girl living under Taliban rule.  The movie led us to discussions regarding human rights, women’s rights in Islam, the “Muslim” world, and our role as American Muslims.

November 28th 2004 – Eid Bowling Extravaganza

Community members had the opportunity to participate in a party that celebrated the end of Ramadan, by joining us for an afternoon of fun.  We enjoyed a bowling alley to ourselves, ate pizza and cake, and had a pinata for the children.

October 17th 2004 – Night of Remembrance

A few days into Ramadan, The Webb Foundation wanted to start the holy month by starting a daily fast together as a community.  A group of 30 adults met together at 4:30 AM for worship, prayers upon Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him), and songs that expressed our intention to seek the blessings of God in this Blessed month.  We finished the event with a light meal, followed by Fajr (Pre-Dawn) Prayer.

October 1st 2004 – Ramadan Workshop

As a service to those of our patrons who are parents of school-age children, The Webb Foundation sponsored a workshop that addressed the issue of sharing our Muslim holidays in the public school classroom.  The presenters included educators and others who have presented to their child’s classroom.  Topics included informational websites, creative ideas for teachers, and key points to discuss.

September 19th 2004 – Family Bike Ride/ Walk

In Islam, we are commanded to reflect on all of God’s creation as a way of understanding His greatness.  We met at the forest preserve in Naperville, IL and embarked on a community bike ride and/or walk.  The 45 attendees then had the opportunity to listen to and talk with a Park Ranger about the local flora and fauna.  This was followed by prayer and short talk by Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah as he commented on the importance of our ecological awareness.

August 21st 2004 – Movie Under the Stars

August 21st brought an unusually cool night, but it wasn’t a deterrent for the 75 people who showed up to watch a backyard movie.  Families laid out their blankets, and snuggled closely, while watching Running Free.  It was a movie about loyalty, friendship, courage, and family.  Afterwards, we enjoyed a great discussion about the lessons in the movie, and how they relate to us as Muslims.  We also enjoyed smores and a campfire!

July 18th 2004 – Pioneering Picnic

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, The Webb Foundation made its debut with a presentation to the community that provided information about the organization, future plans, and a synopsis of the survey results we gathered.  All praise to God, we had great weather which made the backyard setting that much more inviting.  The event was attended by approximately 80 people, which sparked lots of conversation, ideas, and support for our efforts.
